May 29/07      Powered Paragliding Ontario Fly in 2007

As last year fly in was bit of a disaster due to very very unfavorable weather and due to the fact that access at Sodom Rd. field is still fragile we will not organize fly in this year. Instead, I invite all PPG pilots affiliated with PPO to attend Fly-In event in Rimouski, Quebec 27-29 July 2007.

&

This is one of the best Fly-ins that is held in Canada, with many fun activities for PPG pilots and family. The cost of the event (Per pilot) is $40.00 if you book early or $50.00 for signing up at the event.  This cost includes the price for a supper, and for non-pilots the cost is $10.00 per person for the supper meal only. There is on site camping and local accommodations available.

For further information you can contact Regis Castonguay or (418) 735-5858 or Sebastian Gagne (418) 725-0942. You can also go to their web site at www.paramoteurrimouski.com/rencontre_rimouski_2007.html

May 24/07      Next PPG course starts this Sat morning..

I still have some space left. Call to register.

May 19/07      PPG flight over Everest.

A British PPG pilot has flown over Mount Everest, becoming the first man to do so, his agency said on Friday. Bear Grylls, 32, flew 140 metres (460 feet) above the world's highest peak at 8,850 metres (29,035 feet) on Monday after taking off on a powered paraglider from a village in the Khumbhu region where Everest is located, Explore Himalaya agency said. "Amazing and nervous," Grylls told reporters when asked how he felt about his mission. "It was an incredible experience."

A writer and TV presenter from Ramsbury in Britain, Grylls was able to look down at Everest as he circled above some of the mightiest peaks of the Himalayas. "Bear Grylls has become the first man to fly over Mount Everest by powered paraglider," said Explore Himalaya president Suman Pandey.

Twenty-three climbing expeditions are trying to scale Mount Everest from the Nepali side in the current climbing season which began in March. The mountain can also be climbed from Tibet. Nearly 2,000 people have scaled the mountain since it was first conquered by New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in 1953.

May 17/07      Weather is crap!

It has been storming and raining here in Ontario, Canada for the last 3 days. No flying. Bummer!

Well, it gives us some time to look at one of the latest Walkerjet accessories...

May 15/07      Seriously torn paraglider still works...

Incredible accident happened on 29. 4. 2007 at Monte Grappa (Italy). Two polish pilots had a mid air collision at about 3000 ft altitude, one pilot, after throwing reserve, landed safely on a field. The situation for the second pilot was a bit more serious. The result of the collision was that one third of the wing was cut off completely, just held in place by the lines. Incredibly, despite the wing being cut, the pilot was able to fly and steer the wing to the landing field making a perfect landing.

May 13/07      Spring flight - May 9, 2007

I after Ajay successfully completed his first two flights. I decided to go for spin.  This was one of those perfect evenings. Very warm and not one stitch of wind. I flew trike as it was already assembled also I was too lazy to foot launch. The flight was uneventful. 1 hr in the air and about 35 km covered.

May 12/07     Preflight check must be done.

This pilot did not notice that the throttle cable stop screws were lose. The cable stop slipped of the throttle wire and motor went to idle. Pilot was in such spot that precautionary landing was possible on tree only.

May 11/07      Don ground handling his new Fides - Don's write up.

About a year ago, I came across the website for powered paragliding Ontario and instantly I was hooked. I thought to myself, there are people as crazy as me in this world. I procrastinated for the better part of a year, until January 2007, I decided it was time to learn how to fly powered paragliders. A couple of days went by and I found out that Andre was leaving Canada for 2 and a half months...
