Walkerjet Paramotor Cruise Control power setting adjustment on the F 16 throttle: After 6 months of flying Simon RR there is one small thing that I have decided to improve. Walkerjet paramotors have a unique ergonomic F16 throttle with built in cruise control button. Unlike other paramotor manufactures cruise can be engaged by simple push of cruise control button without the need to operate throttle trigger. In practice you can be idling during descent or while flying thermals but if you decide to engage cruise you simply push a button. The RPM will increase to the point where cruise control power setting is. Unfortunately there is only one power setting for cruise and I found that once cruise control is engaged, the power setting is touch low for my weight and the equipment I fly therefore I do descent very slightly during cruise control flight. I thought of trying to set cruise control power in such a way that I would be rather ascending slightly which is preferable during cruise control flight. I have taken the F16 throttle a part and realized that part of the trigger must be extended in order to achieve higher power setting while cruise control is engaged. The whole mechanisms works as such: As you push on the cruise control button the conical pointy end will start pushing against the slanted underside of the throttle trigger. This will force the trigger to move until the end of the trigger button clears the edge of the throttle trigger and clicks in. See fig 1 and 2.
So I have taken a piece of 2 mm thick aircraft aluminum and used epoxy glue to fasten it to the throttle trigger so it overhangs about 3 mm. See fig 3. I then took a small file and shaped up the underside of this piece of material so the angle matches the angle on the throttle trigger. See fig 4. So now it is the piece the I have glued in that rests against the cruise control button just under the conical pointy end as before it was the edge of the throttle trigger. This gives me higher RPM and therefore more power. I have tested this improvement last week and there was actually to much power. I was climbing quite steep during cruise control part of my flight so I have filed more material from the added aluminum piece. This should solve the problem and fine tune the right amount of power. I will test it next time I go flying and will let you know. The only down fall is that I can no longer can just push my cruise button in as the force of this would probably brake the aluminum piece from the throttle trigger. No problem, I will first add power to 80 % push and hold in the cruise control button and then release the throttle trigger. Bit more work but well worth it. There is nothing more annoying than trying to use camera to take some pics and in the middle of it realizing that I am too close to ground so back in goes the camera, more power, get more height, out goes the camera again....grrrrr This improvement in combination with TTE system on Sky Paragliders, allows me to read my favorite man's magazine while slowly climbing while on my way to final destination.....
