Paragliding Ontario - Paramotor PPG ultralight lessons and training - June 3/03
June 3, 2003.
Pete's first flight and Yuri's certification:
The forecast for Sunday was awesome. Overcast 5 - 8
KN winds. Who could ask for more. Pete arrived at 9 am and we went
straight to ultralight power training. Paramotor on. After couple of inflations
Pete was in the air. The flight was absolutely smooth so Pete stayed
up for good half hour.
When Pate landed we took 15 min brake and off he
went again. This time we have practiced some steeper turns and big
ears.
Sam found a piece of prop from our last Pete/prop
incident and is happily chewing on it...
Chris came up and borrowed my Lift 28 for quick
spin.
I have jumped in the air to take some midair
pictures of Chris. I should tell you something about Chris. Chris is a wild
guy. He has purchased his equipment from a dude on internet and
learned how to fly it him self!!?? No assistance or instructor
whatsoever. That is what I call big balls. Of course I required few
busted props and several hairy situations but as you see Chris has
survived to tell the stories..... Just to clarify Chris lives in Buffalo
and they are not required in USA to have any license or
certification to fly PPG.
Chris in midair.
Chris below.
Around 3:30 pm Yuri came. He has 9 hrs of flight
time in his log book and came to be checked over and to get his log
book signed off. We had 1 hour pow wow where I have asked bunch of
tricky questions about weather, emergency procedures etc. to make
sure that Yuri understands all theory that he should. Then it was to
do some practice.
Yuri flies Paramotor Nirvana - made in Czech
Republic that he has purchased from dealer in Russia. Slick
paramotor based on the Solo 210. The only thing that I do not like
was the fact that you have to sit on the ground to get in. Other
then that beautiful machine.
Yuri - ready to go.
Low pass.
We have also covered all emergency maneuvers such as:
B stall, Big Ears, Asymmetrical collapse, Spiral dive, Steering with
D risers as letter of competency clearly states that these
are required skills:
This
is to certify that Jane Doe File No. 6474536 has demonstrated the
ability to perform both normal and emergency maneuvers appropriate
to the ultralight aero plane used for the training program, and with
degree of competency appropriate to that of the holder of pilot
permit – ultra light aero plane. This skill level shall be
demonstrated within the 12 months preceding the date of application.
I further certify that the above – named
candidate has successfully completed a course of ground school
training, including normal and emergency procedures, on ultralight Aeroplanes.....
Yuri has demonstrated level of skill that has
satisfied me therefore Yuri's log book was signed off and letter of
competency was written and handed over.
